Summer 2019, Week 4

This summer, we're continuing to include conversation starters, bolded in each section of Edah News.

Kochavim

Our fourth week in Kochavim was moosh! Campers exhibited so much edah pride on Yom Adom. We showed off our Kochavim ruach (spirit) by parading through the camp while singing edah cheers. Chanichim loved tie-dying t-shirts red and participating in an exciting scavenger hunt. Kochavim had a fantastic time on our trip to Hudson River Museum where we explored kochavim (stars) in the sky during a planetarium movie. The magic show and dinner at camp were special treats. Ask your camper to share his/her favorite activity from our trip. We are sad to say goodbye to our first session campers and look forward to welcoming back in Kayitz 2020. Shabbat Shalom from Kochavim!

Shorashim

Shorashim had a moosh fourth week of camp! This week we explored under the sea themes in Yom Mitachat L’yam. We discussed the importance of preserving “oseh ma’aseh beresheet” (natural wonders) and what we can do to help our seas, including cutting up plastic soda rings. A highlight of the yom was using a green screen to reenact the splitting of the red sea! Chanichim also loved going to LEGOLAND on trip day. We enjoyed building and exploring all the fun activities it had to offer. Highlights of the trip included rides and a 4D movie. Ask your camper to share his/her favorite activity on the trip. The magic show and dinner at camp were a great way to end the day. We will miss our first session campers, and can’t wait to see them on the migrash in Kayitz 2020. We wish you a Shabbat Shalom!

Nitzanim

Nitzanim had an amazing fourth week of camp. An out of this world time was had by all on Yom Hachalal Hachitzon (Outer Space Day)! Chanichim made and enjoyed eating astronaut ice cream, and simulated walking on the moon in a bouncy house. We discussed Israel’s Beresheet space mission and constructed our own rocketships. Ask your camper about his/her favorite activity on Yom Hachalal Hachitzon. We also had a blast bowling and bouncing on trip day.  Having a late-day swim and dinner at camp was a special treat. We hope our first session campers have a wonderful rest of the summer and can’t wait to see them as Solelim campers in Kayitz 2020! We wish you a Shabbat Shalom from Nitzanim.

Solelim

Solelim had a moosh fourth week at camp! Chanichim participated in an uplifting musical tefillah led by Josh Warshawsky, our musician-in-residence at camp. A highlight of the week was our edah trip to Liberty Science Center. We loved trying out all the fun games and activities, and enjoyed seeing the IMAX movie, “Wonders of the Night Sky.” Ask your camper what s/he enjoyed discovering at Liberty Science Center. When we returned to camp we made delicious cookie sandwiches. Camper creativity really shines through in our new mayan (loose parts) peulah where we are expressing our creativity using natural materials including sand and stone. In omanut (art), Solelim chanichim are making intricate sculptures. This week we are winding down our first session bechirot (electives). We are sad to say goodbye to our first session campers and wish you a great rest of the summer. Shabbat Shalom from Solelim!

Tzeirim

Tzeirim had another amazing week of camp! Yom Willy Wonka centered around different values and morals we can learn from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Peulot emphasized friendship, patience, interpersonal relationships, and manners. We discussed the importance of being a mench and wrote thank you cards to those we view as our role models. We played friendship bingo and enjoyed a golden ticket scavenger hunt. Another highlight of the week was our trip and overnight at camp! We had a great time visiting various interactive exhibits at New York Hall of Science. Chanichim loved being creative in the animation station, and exploring optical illusions in the hall of mirrors. Ask your camper about his/her favorite part of the trip. We ended the day with dinner at camp and an evening free swim. We made delicious s’mores at an indoor bonfire and settled down to sleep in the gym. Please click here to read “Let My People Know” – a magazine written and illustrated in shiur by Tzeirim campers. We will miss our first session campers and hope they enjoy the rest of their summer. We wish you all a Shabbat Shalom from Tzeirim!

Nevonim

Nevonim had another moosh week at camp! This week campers finished their first session bechirot (electives). Our second group of campers read Torah this week and they were superstars! Chanichim loved the trip to Quassy Amusement & Waterpark, and our first overnight at Ramah Sports Academy! A highlight of the trip was meeting former New York Yankees player Ron Blomberg. Ask your camper about his/her favorite part of our overnight! We bid farewell to our first session campers and look forward to seeing them on the migrash next summer. We wish you a Shabbat Shalom from Nevonim.

Chalutzim & Bogrim

Chalutzim and Bogrim had a great week! The culmination of first session was our three-day overnight to Philadelphia. On the first day of out trip, we learned about our national history at the National Liberty Museum, the US Mint, and the Liberty Bell. The next day, we had a blast on the rides and ate delicious chocolate at Hersheypark. We wrapped up our trip with a lively visit to the Philadelphia Zoo where we enjoyed seeing a wide range of animals. Thank you Beth Am Israel for hosting us for two nights. Ask your camper about his/her favorite part of our trip. We wish our first session Chalutzim and Bogrim campers a great rest of the summer. Shabbat Shalom from all of us at camp!
