Kochavim | Shorashim | Nitzanim | Solelim
Tzeirim | Nevonim |  Chalutzim & Bogrim

This summer, we're continuing to include conversation starters,
bolded in each section of Edah News.

Kochavim loved having extra swim sessions on our yamim chamim (hot days) where we practiced our skills and had fun with our counselors and friends. We had an achla time on our trip to Greenburgh Nature Center on Thursday where we saw many different types of animals including a snake, a ferret, and a tortoise. Some campers even touched them! Ask your child which animal s/he saw or touched on our trip. When we returned to camp we enjoyed a special magic show and dinner. Kochavim had so much fun making and eating chocolate treats in bishul, molding and glazing our creations in ceramics, and making slime in mada. Shabbat Shalom from Kochavim!

Shorashim's week seven was achla! We kept cool on our yamim chamim (hot days) with extra time in the pool. Trip day was a blast starting with a special morning free swim. We left camp for Billy Beez where we climbed high and loved the slides. When we returned to camp we tie-dyed shirts and were amazed by the magic show before having dinner at camp. On Friday we had a special day, Yom Mezeg Avir (Weather Day), exploring different kinds of weather. We dressed a "snow person" in winter attire and practiced the Hebrew words for the items of clothing. Pretending to be meteorologists for the day, we did an experiement to understand how clouds and rain are formed, and why we wear sunscreen to protect our skin from the sun. We made paper snowflakes to see how no two snowflakes are alike, and explored the importance of rain in Israel. Ask your camper about his/her favorite activity from Yom Mezeg Avir. Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom from all of us in Shorashim!

Nitzanim had another achla week at camp! We had a blast on Yom Ani B'Atid imagining our futures. We wrote letters to our future selves that we can read when we are older. We visited a carnival where we built rocketships out of crackers, created our own camp schedules, and even created our own smartphone apps! Ask your campers to tell you about the app s/he created. Our mini-career day was exciting as a nurse, a doctor, and a teacher visited us to discuss their careers. The highlight of our week was trip day! We loved the IMAX movie, "Pandas," and touching different animals like jellyfish and stingrays, at The Maritime Aquarium. We continued our fun with animals with an incredible visit with Outragehisss Pets when we returned to camp. We wrapped up our day creating our own beautiful t-shirts. We look forward to another exciting week as we close out an amazing summer. Wishing all of you a Shabbat Shalom!

Solelim continued the fun this week with many exciting events. Exploring different beaches in Israel, from Haifa to Eilat, on Yom Chof was an adventure. In keeping with this theme, we had a lot of extra swim to stay cool just like we would at the beach. We continued Shiur bechirot (electives) this week. In bishul bachutz shiur we made "maan" bread reminiscient of the bread our ancestors ate as they wandered through the desert toward the Promised Land. Trip day is always a blast, and this trip was no different. We had such a fun time bowling and participating in an interactive game show at Powerhouse Studios. Each camper had a task to complete as part of a team. They earned coins to put toward a prize. Ask your child about his/her task and prize! We rounded out the week by visiting our favorite areas of camp. We made our own creations in makers, completed our original pieces in ceramics, perfected our aim in archery, and used Scratch in robotics. Solelim wishes our Ramah family a Shabbat Shalom!

Tzeirim had another incredible week at camp filled with activities, special days, trip day, and more! Our bunk yamim meyuchadim (special days) were an exciting addition to the week. Each bunk had its own theme, and activities related to it, including an obstacle course, a hike with a picnic lunch, writing our own stories, and we even played our own game of Quidditch! Ask your child to tell you about the special activities his/her bunk had! We stayed cool this week with extra time in our pools. Our overnight was loaded with fun acitivities, beginning with a trip to Rye Playland, a magic show back at camp, and winding down with s'mores around the camp fire. We look forward to an exciting close to the summer next week. Shabbat Shalom from Tzeirim!

Nevonim started the week celebrating our annual ta'aleh, a mitzvah hike up Hook Mountain. We were inspired by our tefillah at the top of the mountain. We sang "Mah Rabu" while taking in the beautiful views to express how majestic our surroundings truly are. We thank everyone who gave tzedakah for our hike supporting Clean Ocean Action, an organization that works to clean and preserve the waters off the coast of NY and NJ. We raised $613! To commemorate our ta'aleh, we created a beautiful plaque to hang on our deck. We wrapped up an exciting week with our trip to High Exposure Rock Climbing where we scaled the rock walls and tried our hand at their ninja obstacle course. After an exciting magic show, we had a special evening-session of bishul bachutz, and sunset yoga before settling in for our overnight. Shabbat Shalom to our Nevonim Family!

Chalutzim & Bogrim

Chalutzim and Bogrim had a busy and exciting week! Our trip to Upstate NY was an incredible opportunity to deepen our connection with each other. Our first stop was at West Point where we had a tour and lunch, followed by a visit to The Fun Spot which was, well, FUN! After a stop at Fort William Henry Museum and a boat tour of Lake George Wednesday morning, we went blueberry picking. We couldn't wait to sample our freshly picked-goods. Before we returned to camp for afternoon activities, we stopped at High Exposure Rock Climbing to see how high we could go, and to test our endurance on the ninja obstacle course. We packed in even more fun with a visit to Bounce! on Friday. Ask your camper about his/her favorite activity from the week's adventures! This has been an exceptional week, just as the whole summer has been. Shabbat Shalom from Chalutzim and Bogrim!
