Summer 2021, Week 1

Nevatim

We were thrilled to welcome all of our Nevatim chanichim (campers) on Tuesday! They spent time getting to know their counselors and pod-mates, playing ice breaker games and decorating their changing spaces. Our Nevatim theme for the summer is peirot (fruit), which focuses on healthy eating and lifestyle. Ask your camper what is the fruit name of your bunk. Every morning we have a morning meeting where we review the schedule of the day and say tefillot such as Modeh Ani and Mah Tovu. Campers enjoyed baking soft pretzels in bishul (cooking), stretching in yoga and making beaded key chains in omanut (art). The weather was hot but katan aleinu (we got this) and stayed cool in the pool and in our air conditioned spaces. On Friday we participated in an Oneg Shabbat where chanichim loved eating challah and drinking grape juice. We look forward to an amazing kayitz with your campers. Kochavim

Kayitz 2021 is off to an amazing start filled with meeting counselors and making new friends. Through heat and rain Kochavim chanichim (campers) exemplified katan aleinu (we got this) and had a great first week at camp! Campers have already learned our edah cheers and the Hebrew phrases that we use around camp. Ask you camper to teach you some camp phrases this weekend. We start each day with migrash dancing and then tefillah on the deck of Beit Kochavim, our summer home. We spent the week enjoying activities throughout camp including ceramics, bishul (cooking), sports, low ropes, swimming, makers and omanut (art). If you have not yet done so, please click here to join our Kochavim Parents Group 2021 Facebook group. Wishing you a Shabbat shalom.

Shorashim

We were so happy to greet our Shorashim campers this week. Chanichim (campers) participated in various activities including baking soft pretzels in bishul (cooking), planting seeds in teva (nature), making beaded key chains in omanut (art) and playing gaga and soccer in sports. We start each morning with beautiful tefillah said together by the whole edah. Our theme for the summer is bashamaym (up in the sky) where we learn about things in the sky such as airplanes, rainbows and lightning. Our chanichim are filled with Shorashim spirit! Ask your camper to sing you a Shorashim cheer. In shiur, Shorashim campers are learning about the map of Israel, and Eliezer Ben Yehuda, who was a driving force behind the revival of the Hebrew language. Please click here to join our Shorashim Parents Group 2021 on Facebook. We hope you have a Shabbat shalom.

Nitzanim

Nitzanim campers are so happy to be in machane (camp) spending time with friends old and new. Despite heat and rain, katan aleinu (we got this)! In tefillah chanichim have learned hand motions done in unison while saying the shema. We had a packed first week participating in sports, gym, and of course dancing on the migrash! Nitzanim campers also had their first opportunity to visit archery and low ropes. In bishul (cooking) we cooked soft pretzels and in bishul bachutz (outdoor cooking) we roasted s’mores over a fire. We are going to have out of this world fun with our Nitzanim summer theme of michutz lachlal (outer space)! Ask your camper what outer space related bunk name your pod has. Please be sure to click here to join our Nitzanim Parents Group 2021 Facebook group. We are excited for what is sure to be an incredible summer and we wish you a Shabbat shalom.

Solelim

Week 1 of Solelim Kayitz 2021 has been awesome! We learned our boker tov cheer and have been chanting it throughout camp. Each pod played ice breakers and getting to know you games. Ask your camper about some of the new friends they made this week. We have also been enjoying climbing in low ropes, baking soft pretzels in bishul, and sports such as archery and gaga. In shiur Solelim campers are learning about the dead sea and conducted a science experiment to see if an egg would float in salt water. We are looking forward to an amazing summer with our Solelim chanichim (campers). If you have not yet done so, please click here to join our Solelim Parents Group 2021 Facebook group. Wishing you a restful Shabbat from the Solelim staff.

Tzeirim

Katan aleniu (we got this)! Tzeirim chanichim (campers) are so overjoyed to be in camp and have already developed a sense of community through our edah cheers. Ask your camper to sing an edah cheer for you. We had fun singing and dancing in the rain and keeping cool in the heat. Our Tzeirim theme for the summer is mitachat l’yam (under the sea) and pods have various names including dolfin (dolphin), levyatan (whale), tzav yam (turtle) and kochav yam (starfish). We have jumped right into camp activities and have already enjoyed swimming, archery, low ropes, omanut (art), bishul (cooking), and sports. At our oneg Shabbat campers loved participating in a mock Shabbat prayer service. Please be sure to click here to join our Tzeirim Parents Group 2021 Facebook group. We wish your family a Shabbat shalom.

Nevonim

Nevonim had a super first day at camp greeting friends new and old. Our theme for the summer is friendship and chanichim (campers) are enjoying discussing various famous dynamic duos and exploring the relationships between different characters. Campers participated in many peulot (activities) including making beaded key chains in omanut (art), building paper airplanes in mada (science) and keeping cool playing sports in the air conditioned gym. Campers have eagerly signed up for our weekly Nevonim Torah reading which will begin on Thursday. At our Oneg Shabbat we explored the concepts of gemilut hasadim (love and kindness) by writing letters to healthcare workers and front line workers. Ask your camper about the letter they wrote. Our word of the summer is katan aleniu (we got this) and we are amazed by the strength of our Nevonim campers and look forward to a wonderful summer together. If you have not yet joined, please click here to be part of our Nevonim Parents Group 2021 Facebook group. All of us in Nevonim wish you a Shabbat shalom.

Chalutzim & Bogrim

Week one of Kayitz 2021 has been incredible! Our campers were so happy to reunite with each other and welcome new campers to our edah. Chanichim (campers) played getting to know you ice breakers within their pods and learned the Chalutzim and Bogrim cheer. Our camper-driven tefillah program offers campers the opportunity to tap into their individuality and connect to their Judaism. We are so proud of our chanichim for reading from the Torah and getting called up for aliyot at camp. Ask your camper about their tefillah experience this past week. Bogrim and Chalutzim campers have been busy cooking at bishul (cooking) and bishul bachutz (outdoor cooking), creating beaded key chains in omanut (art), and lots of swim and indoor air conditioned sports to keep cool. Even during varied weather our campers showed us how they exemplify katan aleniu (we got this) and had a great first week. Please click here to join our Chalutzim Bogrim Parents Group 2021 on Facebook. We wish you and your family a Shabbat shalom.

Sha’ar

We’ve had an achla (excellent) start to the summer welcoming everyone to Sha’ar and chanichim (campers) are already shouting out our milat hakayitz (word of the summer): katan aleinu (we got this) as they walk around camp! Our campers and counselors are forming special friendships while speaking exclusively in Hebrew and using their new 2021 vocabulary words such as masechot (masks), singing catchy songs for taking hafsekot mayim (water breaks) and drinking from their bakbookim (water bottles), and moving from one activity to the next. They are also getting used to the lunchtime vocabulary: Ani rotza pasta v’ketzitzot (I want spaghetti and meatballs), and chanting fun cheers to identify the brachot (blessings) we say for each food. Click here or on the image below to see a video of Sha’ar’s first week! The week has been packed with all of the exciting activities camp has to offer and we are already hearing Hebrew words from all Sha’ar chanichim (campers)- from our seasoned oldest campers in Tzeirim down to our youngest Sha’ar edah, Kochavim. Wishing everyone a Shabbat Shalom!
