Summer 2021, Week 6

Nevatim

Nevatim chanichim are having an amazing time at camp. The week was filled with lots of fun peulot! In teva (nature) campers participated in different activities including examining worms, searching for shells hidden in a sandbox and a nature scavenger hunt. Nevatim campers loved practicing different poses and stretches in yoga. During drama chanichim participated in dancing, drawing and interactive story reading. We practiced our kicking skills during soccer, coached by Super Soccer Stars. Nevatim campers also enjoyed constructing paper helicopters in mada (science), building with connectable pieces in makers and playing migrash games such as capture the flag. In maayan chanichim were inspired by Israeli artist Yael Balaban to create art using black and white materials. In shiur we continue to learn about Hebrew colors and have added in Hebrew numbers. Nevatim campers are loving an addition to our pod morning meetings where a mystery visitor comes and reads a book or leads a fun activity. Ask your camper about the mystery visitors from this week. The highlight of the week was Maccabiah! In omanut (art) chanichim created marbled shaving cream flags with their team color, in shiur they made candle torches and in swim they participated in water races. Kochavim

Kochavim campers are continuing to have a wonderful summer. Katan Aleinu! Maccabiah was a highlight of the week. We were busy with relay races, swimming, soccer, basketball, lunchtime cheers, and chidon (trivia). Ask your camper about their favorite part of Maccabiah. We stayed cool this week by drinking lemonade under our tent. Kochavim prepared to welcome the new month of Elul with a special play. At our Shabbat Oneg campers participated in a scavenger hunt around camp finding what we need for a Shabbat meal! In shiur we continue to study the days of creation. Campers went on a nature walk and found and sorted items according to the day of creation they were made, and used these objects to create flower art. Shorashim

Shorashim campers had a great week 6 of camp. We are so proud that campers are leading our tefillot! This week in bishul we made flavorful pickles, in hockey we focused on hitting the puck and in ceramics we glazed our clay self-portraits. Campers enjoyed blending three colors with sponges to create beautiful tree silhouettes in omanut (art). Our edah has so much ruach (spirit) and can always be found singing our cheers throughout camp! Chanichim had a blast participating in Maccabiah and learning about different popular industries in Israel. In omanut (art) chanichim created marbled shaving cream flags with their team color, during swim they played Simon Says and throughout the day played team sports including gaga, soccer and hockey. At our Oneg Shabbat campers wrote and received Shabbat-o-grams. Ask your camper about their Shabbat-o-grams! In shiur chanichim learned about Rivka and her kindness and generosity in providing water for the camels. Nitzanim

Nitzanim campers had a fun-filled week! We enjoyed a musical tefillah and a story about collective responsibility with Amichai the Music Guy. Chanichim loved watching the staff talent show and were impressed with the many skills of the Nitzanim tzevet! In mada (science) campers experimented with sun-powered science using beads and photographic paper that change colors, in ceramics they glazed their bruchim habaim welcome signs, in bishul (cooking) they made pickles and in bishul bachutz (outdoor cooking) they baked pita bread and ate it with chocolate spread. At our Oneg Shabbat chanichim created personalized challah covers. Ask your child about the Nitzanim Oneg Shabbat. A great time was had by all at Maccabiah! We were proud to represent various Israeli industries. Throughout the day we played sports, special games and pool relay races. In shiur campers replicated Rivka’s kindness of watering the camels by carrying cups of water on their heads and using them to fill a bucket. Solelim

Solelim campers are loving kayitz 2021! Chanichim enjoyed learning new songs at a musical tefillah with Amichai. In etz (woodworking) campers created personalized wooden message boards, in omanut (art) they used sponge art to paint tree silhouettes and in ceramics they glazed their chodesh tov plates. We enjoyed experimenting with solar energy in mada (science) and making pickles in bishul (cooking) and making pita with chocolate spread in bishul bachutz (outdoor cooking). Ask your child about their favorite activity of the week! Sports highlights of the week included basketball, yoga, softball and pickleball. Chanichim proudly wore their team colors and participated in various activities during Maccabiah. We showed team ruach during tefillah, participated in rap competitions in drama, played various team sports and swam in relay races. In shiur chanichim had a blast re-enacting kriat yam suf (splitting of the Red Sea) and celebrating by playing the drums just like Miriam. Tzeirim

Tzeirim chanichim had a super sixth week at camp! During tefillah we sang and learned hand motions to Yotzer Or, and discussed the significance of light and darkness. Ask your child to sing Yotzer Or and demonstrate the hand motions. We are continuing our tefillah bechirot (choices) and a Tzeirim favorite is “Shabbat Chorus” where campers learn a song and perform it for the edah. In etz (woodworking) campers are constructing Shabbat candle boxes and in ceramics they are working on Rosh Chodesh plates. Making and eating pickles in bishul (cooking) and pita with chocolate spread in bishul bachutz (outdoor cooking) were both fun and delicious! We love playing sports and favorites this week included gaga, pickleball and soccer. At our Oneg Shabbat chanichim explored their artistic creativity by making personalized challah covers. We love showing off our Tzeirim spirit and end every day singing edah cheers! Maccabiah was full of fun activities including team building relays, tefillah singing, sports and tons of ruach (spirit). Nevonim

Nevonim campers had an awesome week! Nevonim chanichim are amazing migrash dancers and love dancing on the bamah (stage) every morning. We had another beautiful Torah reading on Thursday and we are so proud of our campers for partaking in this mitzvah. In bishul (cooking) we made tasty pickles, in etz (woodworking) we made trivets and in ceramics we glazed our Rosh Chodesh plates. Favorite sports of the week included gaga, archery and softball. At our Oneg Shabbat we “became” Israeli and made our own Israeli passports. Ask your camper about the Nevonim Oneg Shabbat. Maccabiah was a fun-filled day packed with relays and team sports. Chalutzim & Bogrim

Chalutzim and Bogrim are having such a great time at camp! We enjoyed a musical tefillah with Amichai. At Thursday Torah reading we were so proud that all three aliyot were chanted by Chalutzim and Bogrim campers. In etz we are working on picture frames, in bishul (cooking) we made pickles and in bishul bachutz (outdoor cooking) we baked pita and ate it with chocolate spread. Chanichim had a blast playing capture the flag on the migrash! Maccabiah was a highlight of the week! Our edah made beautiful banners representing the four themes of the day. We also loved our mario cart peulah which involved design, speed and agility. Ask your camper about the mario cart competition! Sha’ar

Sha’ar chanichim had an achla (awesome) sixth week of camp! On Thursday chanichim loved participating in our camp-wide Maccabiah. In omanut they made degalim (flags) for their kvutzot (teams) and wrote the colors on them b’Ivrit: adom (red), kachol (blue), tzahov (yellow), and yarok (green). They made lifdei neirot (candle torches) in shiur and had so much fun doing mirutzei mimsar (relay races) in the breicha (pool). Each pod also loved making up and singing Hebrew cheers for each kvutza. As always, chanichim enjoyed their camp activities this week. They loved making melafefonim chamutzim (pickles) in bishul with melafefonim (cucumbers), batzalim (onions), chamutz (vinegar), and different tavlinim (spices). In mada (science) they made sirot tzafot (floating boats) and put matbeot (coins) in them to test their weight and see if they would make the boat sink or float. During aruchat tzaharim (lunch) campers continue to expand their food and dining-related vocabularies. This week they enjoyed eating and asking for shnitzelonim (chicken nuggets), tapuchim (apples), and afarsekim (peaches). After digesting their food, chanichim enjoyed a misibat rikud (dance party) with Israeli music!
