An Enduring Love of Israel
Ahavat Yisrael B’Neshama
אהבת ישראל בנשמה
Ahavat Yisrael (love of Israel) has been a core value of Ramah Nyack from the very beginning. Since we opened our gates during the kayitz (summer) of 1961, Israel – her people, culture, and history – has been an important part of the Ramah Nyack experience for both our chanichim (campers) and tzevet (staff). We take a thoughtful and multifaceted approach to Israel education. Each year we find new and improved age-appropriate ways to explore text, daven (pray), have fun with performing, fine and culinary arts, and access Hebrew language, all with the goal of deepening Jewish identity and connecting to Eretz Yisrael (the land of Israel). One of the most important aspects of our program is the presence and involvement of our shlichim – young adult emissaries from Israel whose energy and dynamism bring Israeli culture to life at camp. It is through meaningful discussions and relationship building with our shlichim that we develop even stronger connections to Israel. With gratitude to our Ramah Nyack friends and supporters, we believe it is fitting at this particularly difficult time, to recognize the unwavering dedication of our kehillah kedosha (sacred community), and celebrate our commitment to Ahavat Yisrael and its profound impact on countless generations of Nyack Ramahniks.
Honoring Kim Lori Sokol
Kim Lori began her camp career at Ramah Nyack in the kayitz (summer) of 2000. During these 25 summers, she has served in several leadership roles and has consistently demonstrated a great passion for working with children, and for training and mentoring our young adult tzevet (staff). Many camp parents in our community may recognize her in her fluorescent orange and yellow vest, which she dons each summer while enthusiastically volunteering to keep order in the parking lot during Zimriyah! Whether working as Rosh Sport (Head of Sports) or managing traffic safety (!), Kim Lori exudes positivity and warmth, and we are thrilled to celebrate her commitment and many contributions to Ramah Nyack.
