Summer 2019, Week 5

This summer, we're continuing to include conversation starters, bolded in each section of Edah News.

Kochavim

We are excited to welcome our second session campers to join us in Kochavim. We are already forming strong bonds and meaningful friendships! Our new shiur session focuses on exploring different places in Israel. Chanichim took their new passports and “flew” to Israel. We visited a kibbutz where we experienced the value of communal work. We went to Eilat and had fun milking a cow! We made pita in bishul bachutz (outdoor cooking) and ate it with delicious chocolate spread – Israeli style! Ask your child about his/her visit to Israel. This week our storyteller-in-residence wowed Kochavim with her beautiful story highlighting the Jewish value of sharing. If you have not yet joined our Kochavim Korner Parents Facebook Group please click here to request to join. We wish you a Shabbat Shalom from Kochavim.

Shorashim

Shorashim is thrilled to welcome second session chanichim to join us in camp! This week campers had a great time sculpting in ceramics, kicking in soccer, and spiking in volleyball. We also enjoyed challenging our minds in our trivia peulah. Shorashim has been loving our spiritually uplifting musical tefillah with guitar accompaniment.  Our oneg Shabbat continues to be a highlight of the week for Shorashim. This week, we made beautiful Shabbat boxes to hold our grape juice, challah, challah covers, siddurim, and kiddush cups. We personalized our boxes with pictures of what Shabbat means to us.  Ask your camper to describe his/her Shabbat box decorations. If you have not yet joined our Shorashim Parents Facebook Group please click here to request to join. We wish you a Shabbat Shalom!

Nitzanim

It was exciting to welcome our Nitzanim second session chanichim to be part of Kayitz 2019! Our Nitzanim talent show was a fun way for us to get to know each other. We were wowed by campers’ gymnastics skills, singing talents, dance moves, and more. We also had bunk yamim meyuchadim (special days) where each bunk had unique activities to build bunk ruach (spirit). Nitzanim campers completed a creative tefillah project this week. We decorated both sides of a pillowcase – one side representing waking up with “Modeh Ani,” the other side representing going to sleep with “Shema Yisrael.” During our oneg Shabbat bunk activity, campers were invited to share what Shabbat means to him/her. Ask your camper what Shabbat means to him/her. If you have not yet joined our Nitzanim Parents Facebook Group please click here to request to join. We wish you a Shabbat Shalom from Nitzanim.

Solelim

Welcome to all of our Solelim second session campers who joined us this week! We are already having a moosh time at camp. This week chanichim participated in a variety of special tefillah experiences. One morning, counselors led campers in tefillah by bunk. Another day, our storyteller-in-residence wowed campers with parsha stories. Solelim also started new bechirot (electives) and chose their second session shiur. Ask your camper which bechira s/he chose. In omanut (art), etz (woodworking), and ceramics chanichim began second session projects. If you have not yet joined our Solelim Parents Facebook Group, click here to request to join. Solelim wishes all of our Ramah family a Shabbat Shalom!

Tzeirim

Tzeirim was excited to welcome our second session friends to camp this week! We are getting to know new campers while we are reconnecting with our returning friends. We chose our tefillah bechirot (electives) which include parsha place, Hebrew, art, music, and teva (nature). Ask your camper which tefillah bechira s/he chose. Chanichim channeled their creativity in our ma’ayan loose parts area and omanut where we began our new projects using mixed media inspired by Hanoch Piven. Campers continue to enjoy swim, poolside sports, and migdal. If you have not yet joined our Tzeirim Parents Facebook Group please click here to request to join. We wish you all a Shabbat Shalom!

Nevonim

Nevonim gave a warm welcome to our second session campers who arrived at camp! This week we focused on the Amidah blessings and shared ways we can be our best selves. We created figurines and ascribed positive character traits to them. Ask your camper what characteristics they wish to grow. We were proud to hear three more campers read Torah for the first time. Chanichim were excited to choose new bechirot (electives) this week. Nevonim enjoyed being active in poolside sports, cooling off in swim and challenging skills in migdal. If you have not yet joined our Nevonim Parents Facebook Group please click here to request to join. We wish you a Shabbat Shalom from our Nevonim family to yours.

Chalutzim & Bogrim

Chalutzim and Bogrim are so happy to welcome our second session campers! It has been wonderful getting to know campers new to Ramah, while reacquainting ourselves with our returning friends. This week we focused on a variety of bunk activities to build bunk achdut (unity). We joined together in a special tefillah incorporating non-traditional elements to thank Hashem. We focused on connecting to the birchot hashachar (morning blessings) in a more personal way. Ask your camper what new element s/he incorporated into her/his tefillah. We were excited to chose new bechirot (electives) and shiur bechirot this week. Chalutzin and Bogrim are showing their edah pride by singing camper-led cheers all around camp! If you have not yet joined our Chalutzim and Bogrim Parents Facebook Group please click here to request to join. Shabbat Shalom!
