Summer 2022, Week 1

Nevatim

Nevatim campers have had an amazing week getting to know each other. We created cubby signs with our bunks during morning meeting and learned our Nevatim cheers. We experienced the new Park Mada facility and had fun blowing bubbles, made firefly boxes in omanut (art), played pickle ball, and even got to make pita in bishul bachutz (outdoor cooking). On Yom Shishi (Friday), Nevatim practiced for their upcoming Shabbat parade, including musical instruments and lots of dancing! It has been a very busy week!

Kochavim

We have had an incredible first few days at camp. We had our first Zimriyah practice! We are eagerly learning our songs and can’t wait to participate in our first Zimriyah! Campers had so much fun starting their instructional swim groups, and, of course, they had a blast during free swim! Kochavim is loving our new STEM facility, Park Mada, and the science experiments they are doing there. This week they had fun with bubbles! We also had a great time making pita and then enjoying them with chocolate spread. In Shiur we had a blast watching a play put on by our teachers based on this week’s Torah portion (Korach)!

Shorashim

Shorashim had an incredible week at camp! We got to know each other by playing ice breaker games and learning our Shorashim cheers, and we shared with the chanichim that our edah theme this summer is music! We enjoyed musical tefillah with Amichai the music guy, rikkud (dancing) on the bama (stage), and made rice krispie snowmen in bishul (cooking). In Shiur we had a blast watching a play put on by our teachers based on this week’s Torah portion (Korach)! We got ready for Shabbat with songs, grape juice, challah and Shabbat reflections.

Nitzanim

Since this is the first week of camp, we were excited about the many activities that encouraged campers in our bunks to meet each other and create friendships that will last throughout the kayitz. We learned the Nitzanim cheers and sang them together everyday while eating our glidah (ice cream). This week, we started Zimriyah practice and had a great time singing our edah songs, including Yachad. In Shiur we had a blast watching a play put on by our teachers based on this week’s Torah portion (Korach)! Sports have been particularly exciting, like playing soccer, shooting hoops, and climbing the migdal (ropes course) tower, just to name a few. Our Nitzanimers’ favorite activity is definitely swimming in the pool! We have two swim periods everyday, which have been great opportunities to cool down and play with friends!

Solelim

We introduced our edah mascot this week, Ziz the Peacock. Ziz (the stuffed animal) travels around with one bunk each day and at the end of the day, the group writes their highlights of the day in our journal. Everyone is so eager to spend the day with Ziz! We started Zimriyah practice, and everyone was so excited to sing along. We cannot wait to perform on July 13th! Our campers enjoyed going to migdal (high ropes) for the first time (in prior years they have only been on low ropes). They completed their swim tests and really enjoyed their first free swim! The whole group loved participating in yoga, as well as robotics at the new Park Mada facility. At shiur, we chose our options for bechira (choice time) and are so excited to break into these smaller groups to learn Judaism through different lenses.

Tzeirim

Campers have been getting to know each other, and we learned the Tzeirim cheers together. Zimriyah is coming up fast, and we have already started practicing for the big day! We began our first bechirot (electives), tried out migdal (ropes course), and got creative in etz (woodworking) and omanut (art). Campers had an incredible experience at the new Park Mada facility, enjoying robotics there.

Nevonim

It has been a very busy week in Nevonim! On the first day, our campers enjoyed meeting each other by participating in a peulat tzrif (bunk activity), where they had ice breaker activities. We enjoyed ceramics, etz (woodworking), and migdal (ropes) for the first time. Campers picked their bechira (elective) options and enjoyed participating in them, as well as sports and free swim! We even began learning our Zimriyah songs for this kayitz!

Chalutzim & Bogrim

Our campers have been busy reuniting with old friends and making new ones. It’s hard to believe that Zimriyah is just around the corner, but it is, and everyone has already started learning new songs for the big day! Campers got to check out our new Park Mada space, where they enjoyed 3D printing and robotics. Instructional swim is underway, and campers have completed their swim evaluations. During Rosh Chodesh Torah reading, one of our campers read the first Aliyah of the parasha, his first time reading from the Torah! Chanichim loved having aliyot, some for the first time ever. It has been a very busy first week!

Sha’ar

We’ve had a sababa (awesome) start to the summer welcoming everyone to Sha’ar and chanichim (campers) are already using our milat hakayitz (word of the summer), nadeer (rare/special/amazing), to describe their days at camp!

Our campers and counselors are forming special friendships with their madrichim (counselors), who are speaking to them exclusively in Hebrew, and exploring all of our areas in camp including our brand new STEM Center, Park Mada! They are staying cool by drinking mayim (water) from their bakbookim (water bottles), and swimming twice a day in the breicha (pool). They are also getting used to the lunchtime vocabulary: Ani rotza pasta v’ketzitzot (I want spaghetti and meatballs), and chanting fun cheers to identify the brachot (blessings) we say for each food.

The week has been full of all the exciting activities camp has to offer and we are already hearing Hebrew words from all Sha’ar chanichim (campers)- from our seasoned oldest campers in Nevonim down to our youngest Sha’ar edah, Kochavim.
