Summer 2022, Week 5

Nevatim

We had a nadeer fifth week in Nevatim. Campers made lemonade and pita in bishul bachutz, and they explored the garden in teva. We’ve been learning new dances in rikkud, and campers loved playing with the marble tracks at Park Mada. In our morning meeting we read rainbow fish and learned about the importance of sharing. For our Shabbat oneg we made Shabbat boxes.

Kochavim

This was a special week for our edah. On Tuesday, we celebrated a longstanding Kochavim tradition: Yom Adom! The migrash was adorned in red streamers and banners, and campers and their counselors showed edah pride by wearing red clothing and accessories. Special activities were woven in throughout the day, like Yom Adom relay races, special crafts in omanut, a carnival and a parade. It was a nadeer day for Kochavim! We also enjoyed celebrating Sha’aria on Wednesday. The Sha’ar staff performed a skit on the migrash in the morning, and our Sha’ar bunks had special activities throughout the day. Kochavim campers also enjoyed playing soccer this week, made pita with chocolate spread in bishul bachutz, and started their light bulb project in omanut. In Shiur, we began second session with our Israel curriculum. Kochavim prepared for their trip by learning that they’d be traveling (in their imaginations!) to another country and that it was a hot place where they speak Hebrew. They filled out their darkon (passport) and packed their mizvada (suitcase) with everything they’d need. Then, on Wednesday, campers presented their passports to El Al agents, got them stamped, and boarded their flight. After a brief video introduction from Shalom Sesame, they were off!

Shorashim

It’s hard to believe we are already a week into second session! Campers have been very busy working on light bulb projects in omanut and practicing dances in rikkud. They started a new sport at camp, volleyball, and learned new skills. Campers loved creating marble runs on the magnetic wall in Park Mada. And, they enjoyed the special Sha’aria festivities on Wednesday. In Shiur, campers began learning about Israel. Shorashim learned about the different climates and landscapes of Israel, coloring their maps different colors for water, mountains, desert and cities. After a short skit about Eliezer Ben Yehuda, campers learned about the re-emergence of Hebrew as a modern language, playing a matching game based on Hebrew words found all over camp.

Nitzanim

Nitzanim campers had a nadeer week! They painted rocks and picked mint from the garden at teva, and campers made a dreidel set at etz. In drama, we played two truths and a lie and came up with wacky camp scenarios. Campers indulged in yummy pita and chocolate spread at bishul bachutz! We had Yom Ani B’Atid, where we thought about the future and what we want to be when we grow up. We had bunk discussions and listened to each other’s dreams. We also enjoyed a job fair, where we learned about so many different jobs we can be when we grow up, from a doctor to a rabbi, a coder to a firefighter. During Wednesday’s Sha’aria, our Sha’ar bunks performed with their bunk in a talent show. In Shiur, campers are learning about Israel. Nitzanim campers learned about the importance of water in Israel and the region, making their own desalination and drip irrigation machines using straws, bowls, and salt water!

Solelim

We have had a nadeer start to second session in Solelim. Those who haven’t yet had ceramics and etz have started their projects. In migdal, we have enjoyed challenging ourselves and trying new elements of the course. We played gaga with robots in robotics! Campers played capture the flag, which gives everyone an opportunity to learn new tactics and sportsmanship. We had a Yom Spy on Friday, where campers learned to be special agents to help those in need of a kind deed! Finally, we had our talent show part 3! All the kids are getting the opportunity to shine and be brave by getting up in front of the edah and show a talent! In Shiur, chanichim selected new electives, including some choices that are new this session, such as Judaism: Hands On, where students will be learning to tie tzitzit knots and the art of calligraphy.

Tzeirim

Our chanichim were so excited to welcome new campers to our edah this week! They got to choose their second session bechirot, and campers are especially enjoying migdal! Campers began to drive “speedy spheros” in robotics, which are really cool robotic spheres. The Sha’aria was a really exciting day for our Sha’ar tzrif (bunk) to perform in front of the other Sha’ar bunks. On Friday, we decorated challah covers for our oneg. We selected new Shiur electives this week, including some choices that are new this session, such as Diary of a Campy Kid (based on the popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series).

Nevonim

Nevonim counselors loved welcoming all second session campers this week! Everyone picked their bechira and shiur electives for second session. Campers loved playing gaga and doing sports in the ramot gym. Campers also enjoyed Sha’aria on Wednesday. There were special activities for our Sha’ar campers in bishul and omanut, as well as a fun talent show. In Shiur, chanichim selected new Shiur electives, including some choices that are new this session, such as Diary of a Campy Kid (based on the popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series).

Chalutzim & Bogrim

We had an awesome week welcoming our second session campers to our edah! We chose our bechira for second session. Campers enjoyed spending time in activities like robotics, migdal, etz, and ceramics. We also played a lot of sports, including soccer and ultimate frisbee. Bogrimers were particularly excited for our gaga tournament! We had our first Torah reading of second session and kids were eager to have aliyot. Chanichim also selected new Shiur electives this week. Campers who participated in Ramah Outdoors had a nadeer time hiking, orienteering and staying over at camp on Thursday night.

Sha’ar

We had a truly nadeer week in Sha’ar! On Wednesday we had our annual Sha’aria, a Yom Meyuchad (Special Day) that was filled with exciting and fun activities for all campers in Sha’ar. The theme of the day was 100 Shirim Rishonim (100 First Songs), which is the name of a famous Israeli collection of children’s songs. Each bunk had their own song, which they performed beautifully in our very own Sha’ar Talent Show.

Because the day was dedicated to Sha’ar, all of the specialty areas did projects related to Hebrew, Israel, and the theme of the day. In omanut, chanichim created degalim (flags) for their bunk’s song for the talent show. In bishul bachutz they made pita im chocolat (pita with chocolate spread) and in bishul they made kadurei choco (balls of chocolate rolled in powdered sugar and sprinkles), both treats that are seen throughout Israel.
