Prospective Families
We have had a teiruf fourth week, including today’s celebration of Yom Yisrael throughout camp! Everyone stayed hydrated and enjoyed cooling off with extra time in the pool on our yamei chamim (hot days). In shiur, campers have been talking all about family. They got to make some food all by themselves in bishul bachutz (outdoor cooking), including banana boats – bananas decorated with chocolate chips. Today, Nevatimers had the opportunity to celebrate Yom Yisrael by filling the Kinneret with water, participating in an archaeological dig, going to the shuk, and learning about influential Israelis.
We had a teiruf fourth week of camp! This week we beat the heat with 3 swims a day, running through the sprinklers, freeze dance inside Beit Kochavim and so much more. We spent time as an edah reading the book “Leo the Lightning Bug,” and we discussed words such as frustration and bravery. The chanichim then completed an art project about “doing hard things” and lightning bugs. We then closed the lights and danced to the song “fireflies.” We enjoyed ice cream sandwiches for glida, learned a few new cheers and had a cheer off in the chadar ochel (dining room) with Shorashim! For Yom Yisrael, we visited the shuk, made Israeli flags, and practiced our Hebrew cheers.
We have had a teiruf fourth week, including today’s celebration of Yom Yisrael! Everyone stayed hydrated and enjoyed cooling off with extra time in the pool on our yamei chamim (hot days). Rosh Shira Amichai led a special tefillah for us to start the week. Campers tested their balance on the beam and learned new skills in gymnastics. In omanut, they made placemats for Shabbat and in bishul, they made hummus. Yom Yisrael was full of fun and learning. We made Israeli flags, played a trivia game about Israel, read Sammy Spider’s First Trip to Israel, and learned some traditional Israeli dancing.

In bishul bachutz (outdoor cooking), campers made banana boats with bananas and chocolate chips. On Tuesday, each bunk had a special peulah (activity) – be sure to ask your child what their bunk did. And to wrap up the week on Yom Yisrael, we went to the shuk to see what kinds of items can be found in the outdoor markets of Israel.

We danced, played pin ball, and worked on developing our soccer skills while having fun playing together. In bishul, campers made hummus and got to eat and enjoy the results of their hard work!
You may know that we have a mascot for our edah, a stuffed peacock called Ziz. After all of the singing at ZIZriyah last week, Ziz took a well-earned vacation. While Ziz was away, campers did all of the good deeds that Ziz usually does around camp – saying todah and bevakasha, complimenting friends and getting to know more fellow campers, and being an active participant during tefilla. In celebration of Ziz’s return, we had a Yom ‘Where is Ziz’ so campers could learn about all of the places Ziz traveled on vacation.
We have had a teiruf fourth week, including our overnight at camp and today’s celebration of Yom Yisrael! Everyone stayed hydrated and enjoyed cooling off with extra time in the pool on our yamei chamim (hot days). In ceramics, campers showed their creativity in making cool plates. And in ping-pong, they got to learn from and test their skills against an Israeli ping-pong champion. Campers took on the challenge and fun of learning how to control and maneuver robots in Park Mada.
And then, there was our overnight at camp! There was fun at every turn – swimming, Family Feud, dinner, s’mores, laughter – and even some sleep!
We have had a teiruf fourth week, including our overnight at camp and today’s celebration of Yom Yisrael! Everyone stayed hydrated and enjoyed cooling off with extra time in the pool on our yamei chamim (hot days). Campers were very brave as they tried the zip line in migdal and most found out that they loved it! They also worked on their focus and aim in archery and expressed their individual creativity with beading for shoes in ma’ayan and making Shabbat candle holders in omanut.

We have had a teiruf fourth week, especially on our overnight trip to Baltimore! We made the best of every moment of the trip together – from laughing on the bus rides and touring the B&O Railroad Museum to glow-in-the-dark mini golf. The National Aquarium in Baltimore was a huge hit, as was bowling. The trip gave campers an opportunity to bond while exploring a new place and learning together.
The trip was wonderful, and we had the gift of returning to camp in time to celebrate Yom Yisrael. From a morning celebration on the migrash to exploring the shuk, it was a great way to wrap up this week.
We had a teiruf week in Sha’ar! Chanichim had so much kef (fun) this week playing mischakey mayim (water games) and swimming in the breicha (pool) three times a day on hot days. They learned and used tons of warm weather-related and pool-time words: cham (hot), schiyya (swimming), breicha (pool), mishkefei shemesh (sunglasses), magevet (towel), krem hagana (sunscreen), and mishkefet (goggles). We made placemats in omanut this week and enjoyed lunches of pizza, macaroni eem gvina (macaroni and cheese), and pizza bagels.
Chanichim loved celebrating Yom Yisrael today! All of their madrichim are part of our mishlachat and helped in the preparations. Camp is decorated in cachol v’lavan (blue and white) with Israeli flags proudly flying everywhere. Chanichim purchased Israeli pita and tavlanim (spices) at the shuk (market), filled Yam Kinneret (Lake Kinneret) with mayim (water), visited the Israeli Knesset, and played trivia Yisraelit (Israeli trivia). They sang shirim Yisraelim (Israeli songs) and enjoyed watching a beautiful daglanut (Israeli flag dance) this morning on the migrash. They also enjoyed participating in a traditional rikud (Israeli dance) to the classic song, “Od Lo Ahavti Dai.” It was a true yom meyuchad (special day) here at camp.
Chanichim started to prepare for next week’s Sha’ariyah, a yom meyuchad which will take place on Thursday, filled with exciting and fun games and activities for all campers in Sha’ar. This year’s theme is Sha’ar b’chalal (Sha’ar in outer space)!
