Prospective Families
We have had a chalom time at camp this week! Each morning, after time on the Migrash (main lawn) with all the campers, we start our day with a cheerful welcome song and a look at the schedule. This week, Nevatim campers had so much fun swimming in the pool, making bead creations at Ma’ayan (beading) and painting in ceramics. In sports, they stayed active by practicing both yoga and gymnastics, moving their bodies and having a great time! In Bishul (cooking), they made their own pickles: slicing cucumbers (with kid-safe knives and supervision!) and mixing in salt, vinegar, and spices. Nevatim had a lot of tasty fun! At Park Mada, we had so much fun playing with bubbles, but not just any bubbles – instead of just round bubbles, chanichim made square and pyramid bubbles using 3D shapes made with pipe cleaners. We learned that when bubbles are held in a frame, they can change shape and look like cool 3D shapes. In Omanut (art), Nevatim learned about Dan Reisinger, a famous Israeli graphic designer known for using bright colors and bold designs. Inspired by his work, they made their own colorful art using large printed wooden letters on black paper. In Shiur this week, we continued learning about Israel using the song “Eretz Yisrael Sheli” (My Israel). For the verse about the gesher (bridge), a word we know well from our gesher here at camp, we built our own bridges. For the verse about the kvish (road), we drew roads. Next week, we’re excited to put all the verses together and sing the full song as a group!
This week, our amazing Kochavim had a chalom time at camp! They danced, jumped, twirled, and spun throughout the fun week! Campers enjoyed exploring in Teva (nature), moving to the beat in Rikkud (dance), getting creative at Ma’ayan (beading), playing tennis and learning new yoga poses! In Ceramic, the chanichim put their final touches on their beautiful apple dishes, in time to be used on your Rosh haShana table! In Bishul (cooking), they made their own pickles: slicing cucumbers and mixing in salt, vinegar, and spices. Kochavim had a lot of tasty fun! We learned that when bubbles are held in a frame, they can change shape and look like cool 3D shapes. In Shiur, we kept learning about the days of Creation with fun activities. To represent the Fourth day, we made telescopes to explore the creation of the sun, moon and stars. Then we played the “Swim Fishie Swim” game and did a bird scavenger hunt in honor of the fish and birds created on the Fifth day. For the Sixth day, we celebrated the creation of animals by playing animal-themed games and using our imaginations to design our own fun and creative creatures.
This week we had a chalom week full of energy, creativity and fun! Shorashim stayed active with a variety of sports. They especially enjoyed swimming, basketball, tennis, softball, and a new favorite, pickleball, which was a big hit this week! Soccer and Gaga continue to be all time favorites!! At Low Ropes, campers challenged themselves to reach new heights as they climbed the rock wall. The week was also filled with creativity! At Ma’ayan (beading), Shorashim made colorful necklaces using peace symbols and neon beads. In Omanut (art), the chanichim learned about Dan Reisinger, a famous Israeli graphic designer known for using bright colors and bold designs. This week in Shiur we learned about the Ten Commandments by talking about which one we thought are the most important. We had fun trying to act out some of the positive Commandments. We also learned the story of the Golden Calf and held a mock trial to decide whether Aharon was responsible for what happened.
We had a chalom week at camp! The chanichim danced on the migrash and had a great time playing a variety of sports, tennis, pickleball, gaga, basketball, and ping pong .They also enjoyed practicing gymnastics and learning new yoga poses. Over at Migdal, Solelim challenged themselves to reach new heights, literally! At Ma’ayan, they made colorful necklaces using peace symbols and neon beads. In Omanut (art), campers explored the work of Dan Reisinger, an award-winning Israeli designer known for his bright colors and clever use of symbols. He created over 150 famous logos and is called the master of color and symbols. The chanichim took on a creative challenge to make their own graphic design posters inspired by Reisinger. Using the word “Ramah” they turned letters into pictures of special places at Camp Ramah Nyack, like the pool, the bridge, and the ping pong tables. The results were amazing, with creative logos that could be used for a real camp campaign!! In Park Mada, Solelim were hard at work with robotics and got creative using ThinkerPads to design and 3D print their very own dreidels, blending technology and tradition! In Shiur, the chanichim continued learning with fun and engaging electives. They explored Jewish ideas in creative ways. They did art projects based on the stories from the Tanach and looked for Jewish ideas in nature. They also used art to express their thoughts about important Jewish values.
We have had a chalom week at camp! The highlight was our overnight at camp, which made the entire week feel extra special. From start to finish, the evening was packed with fun activities! Campers enjoyed extra swim time, challenged themselves on the Migdal, played games of capture the flag, and relaxed at Maayan while doing creative beading. The madrichim (counselors) ran great activities that kept everyone smiling all evening. We had a silent disco dance party, a fun egg drop from the Migdal, where each bunk built a way to keep their egg from cracking and a big game of bingo. We ended the night around the bonfire with tasty s’mores, and we even managed to get some sleep! The rest of the week was just as exciting! Tzeirim loved having extra time to play tennis, working on hitting the ball more accurately. They also enjoyed basketball, softball, and learning new yoga poses. In Park Mada, Tzeirim were hard at work with robotics and got creative using Thinker Pads to design and 3D print their very own dreidels, blending technology and tradition! They especially enjoyed swimming, basketball, softball and pickleball, which was a big hit this week! At Park Mada, campers had the opportunity to explore coding by using a Sphero robot to play bowling! First, they programmed the robot’s speed and distance, then tested their code by launching it toward the bowling pins. It was a fun, hands-on way to learn about programming and robotics through play. We had a chalom week, especially on our trip to Washington DC! The campers truly made the most of every moment together. We started the trip with a visit to the International Spy Museum, where we learned about the world of spying from ancient times to the present day, we saw tools and techniques used by spies, and even tried out simulated spy missions. We ended the first day with a delicious dinner and we made ourselves comfy and cozy at the Tifereth Israel Congregation. One of the best parts of the trip was our visit to the National Zoo. Campers had an amazing time meeting the zoo’s most famous residents, the giant pandas and enjoyed exploring all the other amazing animals throughout the day. Everyone really enjoyed the tour of the US Capitol and exploring the landmarks on the Capitol Mall. We ended the second day at the bowling alley, we had a blast playing and especially when someone got a strike! On our way back to camp, we made one last sweet stop at our sister camp Ramah Day Camp in Philadelphia where we enjoyed our lunch! We had such a fun trip!
Sha’ar
We can’t believe how fast this summer is flying by! This week our madrichim were so excited and proud to share that they are seeing and hearing all of their chanichim truly understanding them and speaking exclusively in Hebrew. What a way to end our seventh week of camp! The chanichim had so much fun while practicing their Ivrit (Hebrew) during all kinds of exciting peulot (activities)! They used Hebrew while playing tennis shulchan (ping pong) and during yoga, where they did stretches using their own shavui mishkal (balance). In Keramica (ceramics) Tzeirim used alim ametiim (real leaves) to make and paint kearot (bowls). Kochavim made tzalachot in the shape of a tapuach (apples dishes) and decorated them with dvorim v’dvash (bees and honey) and wrote Shana Tova on them, just in time for Rosh HaShana! In Omanut, the chanichim created fun sea creature drawings using tziv’ei mayim (water colors) and in Park Mada, they used a 3D printer to make cool tarot b’tlat meymad (3D shapes). It was a week full of fun learning and Hebrew everywhere!
