Prospective Families
Even with extra swim sessions and times to run through the water inflatable and the sprinklers to beat the heat, we had so much time to try new things this week! On the low ropes course, Nevatim had a blast climbing tire swings and learning how a seesaw works. We also had so much fun in Park Mada, exploring STEM activities and engaging our curious minds. During sports, campers enjoyed playing soccer and softball. In bishul bachutz (outdoor cooking), we made delicious chocolate pita! In ma’ayan (beading), we got into the July 4th spirit by creating festive bracelets using red, white, and blue beads.
We had an alifut second week of camp, including learning how to take care of ourselves and each other in the extreme heat. In addition to drinking a lot of mayim (water), we spent plenty of extra time in the water – in the pool, running through the sprinklers, and in our water inflatable.
Campers still had time to explore all of our beautiful campus, playing with friends and learning from their amazing counselors. They got creative with their counselors in ma’ayan (beading) and omanut (art), had a great time playing tennis, making apple plates in ceramics, and learning new dances for the migrash. In Shiur, we even pretended to ride an airplane to Israel! For Yom Yisrael, Kochavimers learned about heroes in Israel and drew pictures of their heroes. They also built and named a kibbutz together!
We spent some extra time getting to know each other, playing games, and learning new cheers and tefillot this week. Each morning, we start on the migrash with all of camp and then head to Beit Kochavim where each group begins the day with a morning meeting. We then all meet up on our deck for a joyful tefillah.
We had an alifut second week of camp – beating the heat in the swimming pool and under the sprinklers, drinking a lot of mayim (water), and taking indoor breaks as needed.
Shorashim campers kicked off Monday morning by joining the entire camp for a beautiful Havdallah, setting the tone for an incredible week ahead! Each morning begins with rikud (dancing) on the migrash, and the Shorashimers have been loving learning all the moves and dancing together. Many of our bunks played sports this week, and some of us went to drama, yoga, bishul bachutz (outdoor cooking), or the low ropes course.
For Yom Yisrael, we got to experience different places in Israel, including Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, the Negev, and Tel Aviv. We also had a special tefillah with a guest song leader.
We had an alifut second week of camp, including learning how to take care of ourselves in the heat. For us, that meant lots of extra time in the pool and running through sprinklers, drinking mayim (water), paying attention to how we feel, and taking breaks when needed.
Even with all of that, we still had plenty of time to enjoy all that camp has to offer – we expressed ourselves through art in omanut (art), continued instructional swim, learned the basics of archery and pickleball, and had a blast in soccer playing many games of campers vs counselors! For Yom Yisrael, we talked about the Israeli flag and symbols that represent Israel. Then, we decorated our own flags with symbols that represent Camp Ramah and each of our bunks before cheering on as our counselors paraded those flags around for us.
We had an alifut second week of camp! Everyone worked together to stay cool in the heat – taking advantage of extra time in the pool and in the sprinklers, drinking mayim (water), checking in on each other, and taking advantage of air conditioned spaces throughout camp.
Solelimers got to stretch their legs on the soccer field and their creativity in ceramics or woodworking this week. We climbed to new heights in migdal and explored the future of robotics by programming balls in a gaga pit instead of throwing them by hand. Yom Yisrael brought us an opportunity to explore Israel while at camp. As a special project, each Solelim camper decorated a “brick” (little box) and put a note inside. Then, we turned those bricks into our own Kotel, which we will use throughout the summer in tefillah!
We had an alifut second week of camp! Everyone worked together to stay cool in the heat – taking advantage of extra time in the pool and in the sprinklers, drinking mayim (water), checking in on each other, and taking advantage of air conditioned spaces throughout camp.
Tzeirim campers enjoyed their bechira (elective) options, giving them an opportunity to spend more time in a specific activity that they are excited about. We were all over camp – playing basketball, challenging ourselves at migdal on the zip line, and, of course, in the pool to keep cool! Creativity was also a big part of our week as we painted Jerusalem skylines in omanut (art) and beaded sunglass holders and bracelets in ma’ayan (beading) using red, white, and blue beads in honor of the Fourth of July. For Yom Yisrael, we learned Israeli dances, games that are played in Israeli Scouts, and did a geography trivia quiz.
We had an alifut second week of camp! As the temperatures rose, so did our commitment to each other – making sure everyone was drinking mayim (water), had plenty of time in the pool and sprinklers, and taking breaks in air conditioned spaces when needed.
In addition to the many visits to the pool, this week Nevonimers created art in our beautiful art room using tracing paper and their imaginations, and in Park Mada, we enjoyed robotics and a chance to design a hamsa to be 3D printed. We also made our way around the many sports we have here at camp with different bunks enjoying tennis, soccer, softball, and archery.
For Yom Yisrael, Nevonimers made their own kibbutz and learned about Israeli inventions before creating, together, their own invention for camp. And this morning, we had our first Torah readings by campers who have been practicing all week. This is part of our weekly Torah reading program. It’s volunteer-based, and chanichim (campers) can sign up to read 3–4 psukim (verses) each week.
We had an alifut second week of camp! The sun was strong all week, but we found plenty of ways to beat the heat, including extra swim periods and mayim (water) breaks, sprinklers and hoses to run through, and taking breaks in camp’s air conditioned spaces when needed. We took care of ourselves and each other so that we could all enjoy our days at camp!
This week, Bogrim campers jumped into bechira (elective) time, and everyone is finding activities they love, including options like sewing, ultimate frisbee, Broadway at Nyack, and bishul bachutz (outdoor cooking)! They also got to take advantage of all of the sports that camp has to offer as well as the engineering tools in Park Mada. During today’s Oneg, each camper had a special opportunity to decorate and personalize a siddur —making it truly their own. For Yom Yisrael, each camper wrote their favorite things about Israel on popsicle sticks and then made a Magen David.
Sha’ar
Sha’ar chanichim and madrichim are using their Hebrew vocabulary during all of their daily peulot (activities): omanut (art), ma’ayan (beading), chetz v’keshet (archery), teva (nature), bishul (cooking), kadoor-sal (basketball), kadoor-regel (soccer), bishul bachutz (outdoor cooking), ceramika (ceramics), rikkud (dancing), tennis, and schiyya b’breicha (swimming in the pool).
Chanichim continue to use their food and meal-related vocabulary as they ask their madrichim (counselors) for the food they would like to eat for each meal (including snacks!). This week they focused on using a salachat (plate) v’masleg (fork) v’mapit (napkin) to eat the various lunch foods: pizza (pizza), macaroni v’gvina (mac ‘n’ cheese) and naknikiyot for Yom Ha’atzmaut (hot dogs for Independence Day)! Younger campers spent the week practicing words for structures such as bayit (home) and gesher (bridge) as well as various chayot (animals): kelev (dog), chatul (cat), dov (bear) and devorah (bee). They also get to choose which kind of crackers they want for snack: kraker matok (graham crackers) or kraker maluach (salted circle crackers).
